Nature Boy

Walden loves trees!  I noticed it a few weeks ago when I was taking him on a walk in the baby carrier.  It was in the early evening, so the sun wasn't as bright as on our day-time walks.  He kept staring up at the trees and occasionally going "aah"; it was very cute!

For the past week or so, we've been taking him outside when the weather is nice and setting him on a blanket under a tree.  He will happily lay there looking at the tree for about half an hour at a time!  Jon and I take turns doing yard-work-type-stuff or sitting with the baby.  We think it is interesting that he loves trees so much because "Wald" means "Forest" in German!

Here are some pictures of our tree-loving-guy:

  1. Oh my goodness, that last picture looks so much like you Molly! Totally your eyes! I think it's so cool that babies can look "exactly" like one parent one moment and then "exactly" like the other parent a few moments later. I love his track suit! I was really grateful that Michael had a similar temperament when he was a baby - when he was a toddler all of these other kids would be running around tackling each other and he would just sit under a table somewhere "reading" a board book. I would tell my friends about how he would just sit for an hour and color when he was 3 or 4 and they would just look at me with this exhausted face haha. It was so nice! On the other hand, he was totally a biter. Haha, we used to go over to my friend's house, and her little boy was super hyper and wanted to play-wrestle Michael and eventually the boy would always come crying because Michael bit him. I had to scold Michael but on the other hand, in my head I thought he was probably just defending himself against being wrestled with when he just wanted to sit and look at books or play with the Duplos! Okay last thing - I thought of you when I read about this German preschool - see what you think. I'd be a little scared about playing on the frozen pond unsupervised, and it's pretty hippie-ish, by I kind of liked it! https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/18/t-magazine/germany-forest-kindergarten-outdoor-preschool-waldkitas.html?_r=0

  2. Haha, we love his track suit too! It was a hand-me-down from one of his cousins and i thought it was too cute :D
That is funny about Michael and his books! He was probably thinking "oh my, this wrestling business is too babyish for me!!"
Also, that German Waldkita looks so cool! I wish we had something like that here. The frozen pond part was a little scary, but everything else sounded amazing!
