The Winning Number!

I've been looking through pictures of Walden's arrival and this one made me laugh.  Jon's folks, some of their friends, Jon, and I all made guesses as to what the baby would weigh.  I guessed eight and a half pounds.  Well, the delivery ended up being a long ordeal (maybe more on that later) and I had to have a c-section at the last minute.  In the operating room, I was all drugged up and everything seemed pretty fuzzy.  They got the baby out and Jon was with the doctors who were getting Walden going (he came out a bit listless, with a low apgar score) and I was still on the table getting put back together, with a super nice anesthesiologist keeping me company.  The anesthesiologist and nurses were saying reassuring things like "it's typical that a c-section baby doesn't cry right away" and "they'll get him going, it just takes a few minutes!"  And while I was anxious to hear and see Walden and know that he was okay, when they called out the time of birth and his weight (eight and a half pounds), I called out loudly "I won!"  Hahaha, I wonder what the doctors thought!  This picture is of the scale showing my winning guess (thanks to Jon for taking the picture!).

A few moments later I heard a cute little squeaky cry!  The doctors still had to do some things with Walden, but I had Jon take a picture of him with his phone and show it to me so that I could see him.  Then, after what seemed like forever (but was probably only about 10 minutes), they put Walden next to me on the table!  Like I said, lots of things are sort of fuzzy about the c-section, but I definitely remember that special moment when I met my boy for the first time!!!

  1. Hey I also just discovered I can click on your photo and make it bigger, I didn't know that would work, so nevermind you don't need to make them bigger haha. I remember that fuzzy feeling after c-section! I was alert during but after got so sleepy -- I remember this technician guy who was our across-the-street neighbor popped in RIGHT afterward to say hi to me and I kept feeling like I was going cross-eyed haha. Wow that machine looks impressive and yay you won! Oh I can just imagine Jon feeling sort of freaked out in those moments right after - so glad we have hospitals and modern medicine!!

  2. Oh wow, that would've been tough to have visitors right after!! I was also SUPER sleepy and unfortunately also very sick to my stomach (I threw up like 7 times, ugh!). I remember just wanting to stare at Walden, but I kept falling asleep! But you are absolutely right - thank goodness for modern medicine!!

    1. Don't tell James but right when they showed him to me I also threw up! I remember thinking, "I feel bad that my first response to seeing baby James is throwing up!" Actually he'll probably think it's hilarious.
