A couple of quick "hacks" I've discovered!
Just a quick post because I've got to get to bed!
Here are a couple of things that have helped us recently:
- I let Wally watch a video when I trim his nails. He doesn't usually watch videos or TV, so it kind of mesmerizes him. I used to try to trim his nails when he was asleep, but then I accidentally woke him up a couple of times as I was positioning his hands (ahh! waking up a sleeping baby is the worst!). The videos work for a little bit; I can usually trim one hand in one little sitting.
- I put this hot-pad-rice-thingy next to him when I put him to bed. It is this fabric thing that is full of rice that can be heated up in the microwave. I think the warmth helps him to feel comforted, because he stays asleep much better than when I don't use it. I keep an eye on him with the video monitor so that I can see if he were to roll over on it (it's not very hot though, just warm) and then I take it away when I go to sleep, so I don't think there's any health risk.
- Wally is very interested in my water bottle (I keep one next to the bed). He loves to watch the water in it as I turn it around, or swirl it, or do any movement really. Today I washed an old Gatorade bottle, put a little water in it, closed the cap tightly, and gave it to him to play with. He loved it! It kept him busy all while I washed dishes - yeah!
There are so many times where I feel like I don't know what I'm doing, or I doubt what I'm doing, so it's nice to have little "wins" like this once in a while! :)

Yay, good job! I love the homemade baby-entertainer. My favorite hack was what we discovered for Kara -- I think her tummy hurt a lot, but especially in a car seat, she would just scream whenever we put her in there. Somehow we figured out that if we found a crinkly grocery bag (had to be a certain kind of plastic that made some noise), we would crinkle it up in her face and just keep crinkling it up until she calmed down - for some reason it mesmerized her!
ReplyDeleteThat is a good one! And inexpensive too, haha :) I love "hacks"!
