Solids Update

We started giving Wally "solids" (it's funny to me that these very runny purees are considered "solids" haha) last week.  He loves food!!!  So far, he's had sweet potatoes, butternut squash, and carrots.  I think carrots are his favorite, but he's a pretty good eater so it's hard to tell.

It's a very messy business, but it's totally worth it for two great reasons:  I don't have to feel bad about eating in front of Wally anymore (he used to watch me eat and look longingly at my food and even sometimes smack his chops!), and he is sleeping MUCH more soundly at night!  The last few "pre-solids" weeks were not very good in terms of night-time-sleeping.  He was waking up super hungry every 1-2 hours.  Now he sleeps for 3-4 hour stretches again.  Progress! :)

  1. Yay! It's so fun, can you imagine eating food for the first time? Is it still okay to give Cheerios? (Everything changes constantly...) I loved that next step of finger foods, because I always felt like Cheerios were sort of perfect - you don't worry about choking because they sort of "melt" in your mouth, and they're so entertained when you throw a handful of Cheerios on their tray, and they're super "packable" snacks. I wrote a poem once about Kara and all I can remember (from her toddler days) was the line, "Her hands smell like Cheerios"...because they did!

  2. Aw, I love the songs and poems you wrote for your kids! We make up little songs for Wally a lot, but the only one that has really "stuck" is the one about the ceiling fan, haha!
And yes, Cheerios are still okay! I can't wait to give him those! But he is just on purees until he can master the "pincer grip" (picking up things with thumb and forefinger). Then it's Cheerio time! :)
