He's still not a champion sleeper, but he's been sleeping in his crib more and more. The other night, he slept for over 3 hours in one stretch, in his crib. It was fantastic!
We try to do some "family fun time" activity at least once a week. Usually it is swimming on Fridays. Last week, we also went out for supper on Sunday to a sandwich place called Potbelly's. Wally does well at restaurants. He likes to watch people, although sometimes he stares in a sort of rude way; I guess it's okay because he's a baby, after all!
Playing with the drum my dad got Wally for his birthday. Wally still loves anything that makes noise!
Wally's finally starting to get a good bond with Jon. I love it!
So cute when he sleeps with his hands behind his head!
This was in the daycare newsletter for February. I thought it was nice!
Another hands-behind-the-head pic :)
Wally's really into putting things in and taking them out of containers. I put his black and white fabric scraps in an empty tissue box and that has been a big hit. Just today, I made a little "bank" for him with an old food container and some toy links. I just cut a hole in the lid of the container and he drops the links in, one by one, and then tries to get them out again. It seems like the cheapest stuff always makes the best toys!

We always did Family Fun Night on Fridays! Practically through high school, although things got busy, and it kind of fell apart at the end, haha. Our family fun was almost ALWAYS a movie, which I don't think is that great, EXCEPT that we did no TV or electronics Monday-Thursday during the school year. So Friday was like yay we get to watch a movie! But sometimes we played a board game or cards (poker, haha) and those were the best. I just think it's fun for the kids to look forward to the end of the week and have the reward be family time - and honestly we didn't know another family who did that so it was sort of dorky but it's one of those things I look back on and say yeah that was good (there is lots I say oops about). Hahaha that made me laugh about Wally staring at people rudely in restaurants. I love the pic of Jon and Wally and it reminds me that that's when Matt sort of came into his own with the kids, after the first year - he tried before that but sorry, I was just way better at it, haha. No but probably the hardest thing is knowing what the baby needs (I think he's a baby until he's 4, haha) and seeing Dad do it the "wrong" way and letting it go. Then you realize hey wow there's another way to do things. Or the rough-housing, gah that was hard for me I just kept saying be careful!! My favorite Dad story of how dads do things different than moms is when James pooped his pants at COSI (amazing kids' science museum in Toledo!) and Matt went into the bathroom with him to "take care of it" - James was wearing underwear by then and it was a total accident, not like regular diaper "number 2's"...anyway, he came out and I said, "Here I have a plastic bag for his underwear" and he just looked at me and then he said he just threw them away! He said he just wrapped it up in paper towel and tossed the underwear, cleaned up James and out he came! I was thinking how I would have been in there rinsing the underwear out in the toilet, then carefully wrapping it up to take home and wash and...for a $2 pair of underwear...his way made so much more sense, but it just made me laugh. Well this was long and rambly but I love the pictures and updates! You're going to love looking back on these someday!
ReplyDeleteI love Family Fun Night! Movie night sounds so nice and cozy; I can't wait until Walden's old enough to enjoy that! And we also don't watch TV (except for some basketball games online, haha), so movies are a nice treat. I just love when we can all be together, as Jon has a pretty busy schedule (as you know!).
ReplyDeleteHahaha, and yeah, you are right that dads do things "their own way"! :) I think a big part of it has also been Jon's confidence. Early on, he was almost afraid to do anything because Wally cried so much. But I was like "it's not you, it's him!" haha :) So now Jon feels more like he can handle him and I think Walden feels that security and then in turn trusts Jon more. And it doesn't hurt that we see Jon more now that marching band season is over!! :D
Oh yeah and re: Wally's rude staring - it is intense!! He will stare at people for like 10 minutes, watching their every move and every bite, with a very serious face, haha, so rude! :D
